NECA is an Industrial Association representing the interests of the electrical and communications contracting industry across Australia, for over a century. As a not-for-profit thriving business and association, we pride ourselves in providing excellent service, guidance and advice to our members to help them build stronger businesses and to represent their interests to the government. Being the peak industry body within Australia, we also provide support, education, training, legal advice and supply of uniform through our secondary businesses to meet the needs of our members.

Primarily, our goal is to lift the standards of the Electrotechnology Industry and provide a voice and fight for the rights and interests of our members, while delivering critical information to ensure that our members remain in front of changes that may affect the Industry.

Our legal practice primarily represents the Electrical industry and NECA members.

Our areas of practice include:

building and construction law, ranging from construction disputes (including litigation), project and contract negotiation;
corporations law;
commercial litigation; and
employment law.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Located in Chullora, with on-site parking, this position will provide you with the opportunity to work directly with client files, engage with clients and work closely with the solicitors from our practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

conduct legal research;
accompany Solicitors in court appearances;
correspond with clients;
draft court documents and contract/project documentation;
provide basic advice to members and clients
manage files; and
attend to general office administration and clerical duties.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an energetic second year law student to work as a part time Paralegal in our legal practice, two (2) days per week.

This role will be a pivotal player in the legal team, contributing to our processes and successes in multiple areas – an incredible opportunity to truly make your mark.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

The suitable candidate should possess the following skills:

someone who is highly initiative, highly organised and has a great attention to detail;
excellent verbal and written communication;
great time management skills;
proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook; and
have completed contract law at university (highly desirable).
An understanding of Industrial Relations and Construction law will be viewed favourably.
